Voces Academy

Voces Academy works with ensemble based vocal music in more classical genres based on the art of a cappella.
The core size is 16 singers (4 sopranos, 4 altos, 4 tenors, 4 basses), although the size frequently changes both for larger, oratorical projects and smaller madrigal and for contemporary scores.
The working methods emphasizes the chamber music aspect of choral music, i.e. solo parts are mostly sung by ensemble members as well as one-to-a-part Renaissance vocal ensemble practise.

Performance, demonstrations and documentation

Voces Academy underlines the performative aspects of music making. Both rehearsals and performances are used for the environment of interest beyond entertainment – and not only the audience in the concert producing understanding.

Conventional concert presentations are embedded in workshops, where the tacit knowledge about music making processes are demonstrated and documented. In this area the ensemble invents new ways of interaction like Artists in Residence projects in organisations outside the traditional understanding of the cultural sector.

Knowledgebased music making

Varied working methods are given higher priority than repertoire unity. Knowledge based events are focused rather than delivering amusing concerts. Often the ensemble collaborates with Exart Performances and Centre for Art & Leadership.
